Using a Commercial Coupler on a Home Keg System

Converting your keg system to use commercial kegs is a simple process.  Most kegs use a “A-type” or “Slide” coupler.  These are also suitable for Lion Nathan kegs.  Note: we have fitted these couplers with parts suitable for a standard 5mm opaque beer line.  If your keg system uses the thick-walled translucent beer and gas line, you will need additional barb fittings which you can purchase from your local home brew store.

Steps for change-over:

  1. Turn off gas bottle.
  2. Take the grey and black disconnects off the keg you are currently using.
  3. Remove the grey and black disconnects from the end of your gas and beer lines.
  4. Ensure the lines have clean square ends on them.
  5. Ensure the handle on the couple is in the up/disconnected position.
  6. Take your beer line and push into the top fitting as far as it will go.
  7. Take your gas line and push into the bottom fitting as far as it will go.
  8. Make sure your gas is turned off and your beer tap is closed.
  9. Slide the coupler fully onto the round disk on the top of the keg.
  10. Press down on coupler lever until you hear the locking pin click into place.
  11. Turn on gas to approximately 100 KPA.

(Note: Different systems will require different pressures.  We suggest you start with a low pressure with your beer tap open.  Turn up the gas slowly until the tap is pouring well)

To Disconnect Coupler from Keg:

  1. Turn off gas bottle.
  2. Squeeze handle and pull upwards until you hear the locking pin click into place.
  3. Slide the coupler backwards.

To Convert System Back to Home Brew Disconnects.

  1. On the light grey push fittings, you will see a dark grey ring around the hole where the pipe is inserted.
  2. Depress the dark grey ring fully and then pull hose out.
  3. Re-attach Black and Grey disconnects to beer hose.
