About The Reef Range
We relaunched this range in January 2022 and uptake has been significant. Reef is now stocked at the Whitsundays Airport, five Barrier Reef Cruise Boat companies, and a number of island resorts. We are on track to achieve a sales run rate of $1m per annum for this range. It is currently only available along the length of the Great Barrier Reef.
A mid-strength lager has now been added to the range to attract non-craft beer drinkers in North Queensland, where mid-lager is the most popular beer. We have collaborated with Central QLD University Marine Research Centre, Lady Elliot Island Manta Ray Protection Project and Ecobarge Reef Conservation charity with 10c per can sold donated to these charities. We are positioning these range as “THE Reef Beer.”
Where your 10 cents is going:
Bundaberg Region
Ten cents from every can of Reef Beer sold in the Bundaberg Region is being donated to the Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) at CQUniversity to fund restoration and research into vital seagrass meadows, living sea walls, fish health and reducing marine microplastics. The seagrass meadows are vital to species like dugongs. Seagrasses are disappearing at an alarming rate globally. In Australia, seagrass meadows are at critical levels which potentially could have disastrous outcomes for our coastal ecosystems. CMERC’s research team plays a critical role in seagrass conservation and restoration. The researchers provide insight into how seagrass meadows can be restored and grown in regions of extreme conditions.
Lady Elliot Island
Ten cents from every can sold at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort will support the extensive research, restoration and educational activities that are conducted on the Island each year, including the satellite tagging of marine animals like Manta Rays. In June 2022, we have now raised enough funds to tag our first Manta Ray – read more about it here.
Whitsundays Region
Ten cents from every can of Reef Beer sold in the Whitsundays Region will be donated to Airlie Beach charity, Eco Barge Clean Seas, who operate the Whitsundays Turtle Research Centre. The funds will be used to feed and medicate sick and injured turtles.

Most recently the funds raised for CMERC have been put towards storage tanks and the collection of seagrass seeds. The Ballistic Beer sponsorship will also be used to get the CMERC team down to Bundaberg for Oceanfest (27th August) to highlight the seagrass restoration project and recruit volunteers for the flower picking event. With the funding so far, Eco Barge has purchased squid, fixed some broken items on the turtle tanks and installed a new kitchen for the Turtle centre.
