THE OLD SEVEN WINE BAR

567 Old Cleveland Rd, Camp Hill QLD 4152

While I love nothing more than dropping down to the Salisbury taproom on the weekend to have a quiet beer, sometimes its good to get out and see what else is around. In this blog series I will be spotlighting some awesome venues around Brisbane (and elsewhere) that also sell other beverages, while still, of course, stocking a range of Ballistic beers.

The first venue on my list is the Old Seven Wine Bar, in Camp Hill. I had heard a few comments about the place, thought I would drop in, and I am very glad I did. We have been back since and we will go again. The bar is in a small shop on the side of Old Cleveland Road and if you are looking for it at night, look for the mass of fairy lights. Tables and couches inside, its own wine cave downstairs for more romantic rendezvous and tables on the footpath, all tastefully designed.

If you or your partner are wine fans and would like to experiment with different styles and origins at your leisure, then this is the place. Old Seven carries a huge range of French and other wines, as well as Australian wine. There is an extensive list of wines by glass, and just like Ballistic, its possible to buy a paddle of 75ml glasses of four different wines to try.

There’s an extensive wine list, but you can also just look at the walls – these are now blackboards with all the wines written up in chalk for your contemplation. Food is simple – a range of platters with cheeses and charcuterie, also available to buy and take away from a very well stocked display fridge. For something more substantial, they do a range of very interesting designer jaffles. I haven’t had one as on both occasions I went after dinner, but they looked good.

So, it’s a wine bar in the burbs, but what makes it special – beside the wines, the cheese and meats, jaffles, and excellent Ballistic beer? Old Seven has what I hope we instil in our own venues – a sense that you can come and relax, meld into the place and become part of that community. My wife and I talked together for an hour and then spent way longer talking to the gentleman sitting at the bar with his friend, about life in Croatia, where he came from, beer, wine, and a bunch of other things. It was very clear from watching customers come and go, that this is a hub for those who live around there. Matt, the owner, recognised many of the people and it had a lovely warm feel about the place.

If you want to escape somewhere, relax and enjoy the company of the people you are with, perhaps wind up having a chat with someone new, enjoying great wines and our beer, I strongly recommend you head out one night and spend a evening at the Old Seven.

Cheers,

David - CEO Ballistic Beer Co.
